AUTHOR GUIDELINES

The editorial office of Česká kriminologie (Czech Criminology) accepts manuscripts in electronic form only. Manuscripts in English should be submitted by email to redakce@czkrim.cz. The editorial office will acknowledge receipt of each submission. A manuscript submitted to the journal must not be under consideration by any other academic journal at the same time.

Authors are responsible for the academic quality, language and formatting of their manuscripts. Adherence to these guidelines and to the ethical principles of academic research is a condition of publication. An author is a person who has made a substantial contribution to the study, that is, who was directly involved in its preparation and completion. Individuals who contributed to data collection or technical processing, or who provided specific consultations, may be acknowledged in a footnote.

The journal publishes both peer-reviewed and non-peer-reviewed contributions. Non-peer-reviewed contributions include book reviews, conference and seminar reports, biographical profiles, anniversary and commemorative articles, obituaries, interviews and other relevant materials.

The journal accepts original empirical studies, methodological studies and literature reviews (covering concepts, theories and research findings) for peer review.

The editors decide whether a manuscript is sent for peer review. They may ask authors to revise the manuscript before it is sent to reviewers.

Česká kriminologie uses a double-blind peer-review process: the identities of authors and reviewers are not disclosed to each other. To facilitate anonymous review, authors must submit the following documents as separate files. This applies to all rounds of review.

  1. Title page, including:
  • title of the manuscript
  • name(s) of the author(s)
  • institutional affiliation(s)
  • postal address and email address for correspondence
  • funding acknowledgement (e.g., grant number), where applicable
  • a short biographical note on each author
  1. Anonymised manuscript, including:
  • title of the manuscript
  • abstract (800–1,000 characters including spaces)
  • three to five keywords
  • main text (maximum 25 standard pages, i.e., 45,000 characters including spaces, including tables, figures and other graphic elements)
  • reference list in alphabetical order

The anonymised manuscript must not contain any information that could reveal the identity of the author(s).

Introduction
The introduction explains why the study is needed and which line of academic inquiry it develops. It sets out the study’s contribution to existing knowledge and states its main objective, preferably as a research question that the study answers.

Theoretical Framework
This section presents the analytical framework of the study, including its key concepts. Where appropriate, it situates the study within the relevant academic literature, including previous research. Authors should draw on international literature and, where relevant, on research from the Czech or Central European context. In quantitative studies, this section also sets out the research hypotheses.

Methodology
Every empirical study must describe the research conducted, including how the data were constructed and analysed. This section explains how the data were obtained, which techniques or instruments were used, and how the data were analysed to answer the research question stated in the introduction. Where relevant, it also addresses the ethical aspects of the research.

Results
This section presents the main findings in line with the study’s methodological design (quantitative, qualitative or mixed methods). Quantitative studies report descriptive, bivariate or multivariate statistics. Qualitative studies illustrate their findings with excerpts from the analysed non-numerical data, such as interview extracts or quotations from documents.

Conclusion
The conclusion summarises the study’s argument, briefly answers the research question and discusses the implications for theory and/or practice. It also includes a discussion of the findings and a reflection on the limitations of the study. In quantitative studies, the discussion may form a separate section preceding the conclusion.

This structure applies to empirical research articles. Deviations are permitted only where necessary, and the reasons for them must be evident from the manuscript. Authors of other types of studies may use the structure as a guide.
